I am trying to register for a fund for SuperStream and I have received a Registration Failed error stating that the ABN is already in use. How do I resolve this error?
Potential error messages that display: ABN already in use; The supplied ABN is already registered on this gateway service.
Solution
This error message is received where:
- An existing subscription setup for the fund in Simple Fund Desktop had expired prior to migration, or
- The fund was registered directly with Australia post outside of Simple Fund desktop or Simple Fund 360. or
- Registering a fund for SuperStream which is still registered under another firm.
An existing subscription setup for the fund in Simple Fund Desktop had expired prior to migration:
Expired registrations are not migrated across. To resolve the error and be able to complete registration in Simple Fund 360, the expired registration will need to be cancelled in Simple Fund Desktop first.
In Simple Fund Desktop:
To cancel registration for a fund, in the SuperStream screen tick the box to the left of the fund and click Cancel Registration.
Only funds with the following statuses can be cancelled:
- Pending Payment
- Registered
- Registration Expired
The status will change to Awaiting Cancellation until Australia Post processes the cancellation. The status will then change to Cancelled.
Once the status has changed to Cancelled, you can register the fund in Simple Fund 360. See SuperStream for registration instructions.
Note: New registrations on Simple Fund 360 will use the BGLSF360 ESA, which is free of charge.
The fund was registered directly with Australia post outside of Simple Fund Desktop or Simple Fund 360:
To be able to complete registration in Simple Fund 360, the registration with Australia Post will need to be cancelled first.
Refer to the Australia Post Website for instructions on cancelling a superstream registration.
Once the original registration has been cancelled on Australia Post's end, users can then register the fund for SuperStream in Simple Fund 360.
Note: New registrations on Simple Fund 360 will use the BGLSF360 ESA, which is free of charge.
Registering a fund for SuperStream which is still registered under another firm:
If the scenario is for an ABN that was previously registered with a different accountant who used BGL software (i.e SF Desktop or SF360). The previous accountant would need to de-register the previous registration so that the fund can be registered under the new Simple Fund 360 account.
For example:
- Accountant A inherits a fund from Accountant B (Previous Accountant).
- Accountant B has already registered the fund to the Australia Post Gateway for Superstream.
In this case, you may need to contact the previous accountant for cancellation if the fund moved accountant recently.
What does Accountant A have to do to register the fund so that it is under their account?
Accountant A needs to contact Accountant B so that the registration is cancelled on their end.
Please obtain trustee consent. In the Trustee consent please include:
- ABN
- Reason for cancellation
- Trustee signature
Please note: BGL can only cancel the SuperStream Registration if the ABN was previously registered with Australia Post using a Simple Fund product.
Accountant B can cancel the fund in Simple Fund Desktop or by logging in to Australia Post website.
Accountant A then needs to register for the ABN under their SuperStream account in Simple Fund 360, which is free of charge.
