Support Query
I have lodged the Tax Return electronically via Simple Fund 360 but its status has not been updated to "lodged" on ATO tax portal. Why has this not been updated?
* Please note when lodge a return via SF360 it will instantly update in ATO portal. However, ATO has informed us they randomly select some funds’ returns to manually review. This might take a longer time to appear the return as lodged in ATO Portal. Hence, it may be advisable to wait for 5-6 business days prior to taking further action. |
Answer
If the Annual Tax Return has been successfully lodged (electronically) in Simple Fund 360 but showing as outstanding on the Portal, then please review the below items:
- Double-check and ensure the fund's TFN from Simple Fund 360/Tax Compliance page (Section A) matches the ATO Portal
- Double-check and ensure the fund's ABN from Simple Fund 360/Tax Compliance page (Section A) matches the ATO Portal.
- Ensure the Lodging Party details from Simple Fund 360/Tax Compliance page (Section K) page matches the ATO Portal.
Note:
(If you are unable to view any details because they are showing as "PROVIDED", then most likely, you do not have sufficient access to view this information, in which case, please contact an Admin user in the firm to review the above details.)
Scenario 1: SF360 does not match the ATO Portal
If any of the details from Simple Fund 360 do not match the details on the ATO Portal then please contact the ATO and provide them with the incorrect details used for the lodgement as well as the correct lodgement so they can locate the tax return on their database.
When you can contact the ATO, you may provide them with the receipt/details from the ATO validation/lodgement report, refer to the steps below to download the report:
- Navigate to the Lodgement Screen
- Selecting the "Returns Lodged" tab (to view the electronically lodged tax returns)
- Clicking on the "View" button under the Reports column.
Refer to the screenshots provided below as a reference in regard to finding the ATO receipt details:
Updating the ATO Database
From this point, there are two options available to update the ATO database with the correct information:
Option 1 involves the ATO correcting the details of the annual return on their database manually.
See: ATO - Contact Us.
- Please note This is an ATO decision and BGL has no control over this process.
If ATO does this, you can either leave the details on the tax return in the software as the incorrect one or process a tax return amendment > correct the details > mark the amended tax return as "Lodged Manually". For instructions, see: Manually Lodged Annual Returns.
Option 2 involves having the ATO canceling the existing submitted return, then contacting us at BGL to reset the status of the annual return.
As this is a rather arduous process, we do recommend proceeding with Option 1 wherever possible.
- Please contact the ATO and provide the Incorrect ABN/TFN used for the initial lodgement and explain to the ATO regarding the incorrect lodgement situation. The ATO will have to locate the incorrect lodgement and cancel it in their database.
- Create a support ticket explaining the issue and please let BGL know when step 1 is completed, and we will then update the AR status to unlodged status in our data base.
In the support ticket please include the below information:
- Fund Name
- Share the fund with BGL Support by navigating to the Fund Dashboard.
- Correct Fund ABN
- Correct Fund TFN
- Identity of the person who you spoke to at the ATO help desk.
- Reference number for the call with the ATO
- Screenshot from the ATO portal with the correct TFN, name of the fund and showing the tax return is still due for the relevant Financial Year.
- Screenshot of the lodged return (Tax Compliance Screen) with the TFN & ABN and Fund Details screen with TFN & ABN as we are unable to see the TFN from our side.
- ATO Validation Report- This report can be printed from the Lodgement screen (Returns lodged tab - View). It can also be printed from the reports screen for the fund in question.
Once our team has confirmed the Annual Return status has been reset, ensure the correct ABN/TFN has been entered and lodge the return again.
Note:
Some users have reported that the ATO imposed a temporary restriction on their return which meant that they had to wait approximately a week (or even more) before they could re-lodge the annual return as an original lodgement.
As a final note, amending the tax return via SF360 is not a viable solution as the initial lodgement has been incorrectly processed.
Scenario 2: SF360 matches the ATO Portal
If all the details from Simple Fund 360 match the ATO Portal:
As the first step, please contact the ATO and provide them with the details used for the lodgement so they can locate the tax return on their database.
If ATO still says the Annual Return has not been lodged/is outstanding, you will need to create a support ticket with the following information:
- Fund Name
- Share the fund with BGL Support by navigating to the Fund Dashboard.
- Fund ABN
- Fund TFN
- Identity of the person who you spoke to at the ATO help desk.
- Reference number for the call with the ATO
- Screenshot from the ATO side with the correct TFN on the client-side.
Once this information is provided, we can proceed to investigate why the lodgement update is not flowing through to the ATO Portal.
