Symptom
When exporting a Simple Fund 360 report (e.g. Member Statement, Statement of Financial Position) to Word or Excel in Microsoft Edge, the download fails with an error such as “access denied” or “file not found”. Exporting the same report to PDF works normally. Using an InPrivate window, or a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox, also works around the issue.
Cause
Microsoft Edge has a setting, “Open Office files in the browser”, which routes Word and Excel downloads through Office Online rather than saving the file locally. On some machines, this can cause Edge to attempt to open the file through the wrong Office 365 sign-in context, resulting in the download being blocked. Turning this setting off stops Edge from routing Office file downloads through Office Online, so the file downloads locally instead.
Resolution
In Microsoft Edge:
- Go to Settings > Downloads (or enter
edge://settings/downloadsin the address bar). - Turn off the toggle for “Open Office files in the browser”.
- Retry exporting the report to Word or Excel.
