Support Query
When attempting to re-open the 2017 financial year, I receive an error message stating:
There are TBAR events generated by the "Close Period" process that has been marked as Lodged. These events must be marked as cancelled or prepared prior to "Re-opening" the period. Please refer to this link for more information.
Solution
There are two ways to reopen the closed period.
- If the ATO need to know about the lodged event being modified, you will need to cancel the event to reopen the period.
- If the ATO does not need to know about the event and you only require re-opening the period to make changes to that year, the event can be moved to the Prepared tab.
Cancelling the event
A) In the TBAR Management screen, select the Lodged tab. This is where the event that is preventing the reopening of the previous period will be.
B) Locate the Event Batch ID (TBAR File) which contains the fund's events that have been previously reported to the ATO. You may need to change the Lodgement Period filter see this event
C) Cancel the event(s) that have been previously reported to the ATO. This will create a cancellation event in the Outstanding tab.
D) Select the Outstanding tab
E) Locate the event that was just cancelled. Notice that there is an arrow icon. Click on this:
F) This will expand the event to reveal the cancellation event underneath that was created when the original event was cancelled:
G) Tick the cancellation event and select Prepare TBAR. This will move the cancellation event to the Prepared tab:
F) Select the Prepared tab:
G) Tick the cancellation event in the Prepared tab, and select Mark as Lodged. This will move it to the Lodged tab in the next financial year:
H) You will now be able to re-open the previous financial period.
Moving the event to Prepared

E) After making the changes in the previously locked period, it will need to be closed again
F) Once the period has been closed again, navigate to the TBAR Management screen
G) You will notice that the event that was previously locking the previous period is now under the Outstanding tab. Select the event and click Mark as Lodged (Manually)
