Overview
Open Banking (also known as data sharing or the Consumer Data Right) is a service that gives individuals and businesses greater control, transparency, and competitive services relating to their banking products and services.
In Australia, the Consumer Data Right is strictly regulated by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and only providers accredited by the ACCC can offer services using Consumer Data Right.
BGL has partnered with Skript, an Australian-owned and operated business with extensive experience in banking, data, and payment services. As an accredited data recipient with the ACCC, Skript complies with strict privacy and security standards to maintain its accreditation.
How does the feed work?
BGL Open Banking (Skript) is available to all clients that have an active subscription for the BGL Bank Data Service.
Users will need to follow 3 simple steps outlined in the "What are the Instructions for setting up a feed?" to set up the feed.
BGL has opted for the Business Consumer Disclosure Consent model, which limits data collection to business-use account. Entities with a valid registered ABN can consent to data sharing via BGL Open Banking.
Upon the completion of data sharing consent process, Skript will initiate a request for historical data from the financial institution. Subsequently, transactions and balance data will seamlessly feed into the entity automatically.
The consent period is valid for 12 months and requires an extension at the end of each period. BGL will send an email notification to the authorised data sharing representative as the consent expiry date approaches.
What are the Instructions for Setting Up a Feed?
Follow the 3 simple steps outlined below to set up bank feeds for the BGL Open Banking (Skript).
A new bank account can be created within the Chart of Accounts.
Also, if you are setting up a loan account, please review the steps outlined here.
Once a bank account has been created in the Chart of Accounts, it will display on the Feed Management screen. From the Main Toolbar, navigate to Connect. | |
Select Feed Management from the list. |
|
On the Entity Summary tab, under Bank Feeds you can view the bank account details (Ensure a fund has been selected from Entity Workflow to unlock the tab).
1. From within the Entity Summary tab, select (+) Setup next to the bank account that you wish to set up the feed for.
2. Input the Account Name, BSB and Account number. From the Automated Data Feed section, select BGL Open Banking (Skript) as the Feed Provider.
The 'BGL Open Banking (Skript)' will be greyed out if no valid ABN is entered against the entity.
BGL has opted for the Business Consumer Disclosure Consent model, in which only allows BGL to collect data for business-use accounts. Therefore only entities that has a valid registered ABN can consent data sharing via BGL Open Banking.
3. Select the Authorised Data Sharing Contact who is authorised to consent for data sharing i.e. the trustee or director (for Corporate Trustee or Companies) of the entity
4. Click the ‘Generate Consent Link’ button. This will register the Fund and return a unique URL that is valid for 14 days.
5. The bank feed record will now show as 'Awaiting Consent' as the feed status.
1. Once you have generated the Consent Link, it must be provided to the main data sharing representative selected under ‘Authorised Data Sharing Contact’.
NOTE: The consent link has a 14 days expiry date. If the consent link expired, users will be able to regenerate a new consent link in the Bank Feed Edit screen
2. You have the option to 'Copy Consent Link' OR 'Copy Email Template' and providing it to the authorised data sharing representative. The email template includes the consent link for your convenience.
3. The authorised data sharing representative will need to click on the consent link you provided to them and follow the prompts on screen.
4. They must select the institution that they wish to authorise.
5. For each institution, the authorised data sharing representative must identify themselves using their internet banking Client ID and a One Time Password (2FA code) determined by the Bank.
6. The next step is to select the accounts they wish to provide access to.
7. If there are more than one institution to authorise, steps 4 - 6 will need to be repeated for each institution. Some institutions require a pre-consent authorisation to be performed for business bank accounts prior to consenting for data sharing, either in paper form or through Internet Banking.
Refer to the "Supported Institution/Pre-Consent" tab for more information.
What happens after consent is granted?
The BGL Open Banking service will periodically check on the consent status for the given entity.

FAQs
The data transfer is done between providers, but the Australian Government has designed and oversees the system to ensure it is safe and secure for consumers. Providers must go through a rigorous accreditation process to provide you with consumer data rights services. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) manages this process. Read through How it works | Consumer Data Right
In accordance with Privacy Safeguard 10, when an accredited data recipient discloses CDR data to a trusted adviser, they must also update each consumer dashboard as soon as practicable to indicate:
- what CDR data was disclosed
- when it was disclosed, and
- who the trusted adviser was (see CDR Rule 7.9(3)).
The authorised data sharing representative who completed the authorisation will receive an invitation to their Consumer Dashboard.
The authorised data sharing representative will also receive a reminder email every 90 days from Skript to indicate their consent is still active.
Once consent has been granted, the institution will make data available immediately. Skript will connect with the banks to retrieve the data and make it available to BGL. Entities will get their data almost instantly upon activation, and incremental data will be available daily.
Some banks require a nominated representative/delegate as an authorised person to consent data sharing, even if you have authority over the bank account(s). This may involve filling in a digital or paper form. Please follow the pre-consent instructions for the relevant bank by referring to the 'Supported Institution/Pre-Consent' tab or reach out to your bank directly.
As the Open Banking feed supports historical data, any transactions within the entity’s current financial year that are manually entered may duplicate when the feed commences.
To avoid this, please set a 'Do Not Import Data Before' date for the feed via the Feed Management screen to ensure the import of transactions starts from the desired date.
