Migration Utility Error: Unable to connect to Simple Fund 360

Overview

When attempting to migrate data, the following error messages may be received:

Error encountered during version check. The connection with the server was terminated abnormally.

Error: Unable to connect to Simple Fund 360.

This article goes through the process of enabling TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 as the default secure protocols in WinHTTP in Windows.

The Simple Fund Migration Utility requires this to migrate data to Simple Fund 360.

Solution

Follow the instructions below to enable TLS 1.1 and 1.2 as the default secure protocols in WinHTTP in Windows:

1. Ensure that Windows 8 is installed.
   
   
   Windows 8

   See Which version of Windows operating system am I running? for instructions on how to determine this.

   Additionally, note if you are running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 8.

2. Locate the following two .dll files and ensure they have the following versions:
   
   

   File	Location	Version
   winhttp.dll	C:/Windows/System32	6.1.7601.23451 (latest)
   webio.dll	C:/Windows/System32	6.1.7601.23375 (latest)

   Minimum Version

   The versions indicated above are the minimum versions required. A version greater than the indicated versions is fine.

   
   winhttp.dll
   
   
   webio.dll
   
   
   
   If either of the above .dlls are less than the versions indicated above, please refer to the following knowledge base articles to update them:

   Reboot your machine after applying the update in the above linked knowledge base article.
   
   
   Reboot

   Please ensure that your machine is rebooted if the above update was applied.

3. Download the following registration file and apply it to your system:
   
   Registration file (Right click > Save As)
